Installation view of Electro-Cicada, 2014

Electro-Cicada is a new species of electronic insect in the order of Hemiptera and suborder Auchenorrhyncha.  From a distance it is hard not to notice the glowing red LED eyes of the insectoid as it clings to the wall.  The Electro-Cicada's body is composed of point-to-point soldered electrical wire connections centered around a programmable digital chip.  This species achieves motion by use of a small pager motor.  This electronic insect has found a way to assimilate with its naturally evolved brethren thru wing vibration of its copper wings. This Cicada vibrates its wing motor through varying pulse-width modulation cycles.  It is not clear whether the specimen has evolved from the debris and extra parts of our digital landscape or if it is an escapee from some military drone lab.

Dimensions: 1.75"H x 1.5"W x 3.5"D.
